<br />
<br />
These past couple of weeks have been a blur!! I told myself that I would change things up so that I could become a better educator for my students, my campus and of course myself. So today I'm sharing some little things that have helped me love teaching even more.<br />
<br />
Let's start with my classroom. This year I have incorporated white board desks instead of my old brown ones. They were so easy to prep and install. All you need is whiteboard planks from Home Depot, Velcro, and colorful duct tape for the borders and your done! (check to see if your Home Depot will donate the boards) My students love using them and I save a ton of copies by not using so much paper.<br />
<br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEheZEODGakvMsh7SlCUgo89bsAKHBXaSI7YVovJizgIvUVh4R7qZ1bTuBij-SqyxQoFunJDkMitgiyCZJCzB4PV7l-H7xJtEbXiR0chiS3Vix9qGkRCB4KFaIIpe6g9j15vyqd3eeVp4rqV/s1600/1.jpg.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="632" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEheZEODGakvMsh7SlCUgo89bsAKHBXaSI7YVovJizgIvUVh4R7qZ1bTuBij-SqyxQoFunJDkMitgiyCZJCzB4PV7l-H7xJtEbXiR0chiS3Vix9qGkRCB4KFaIIpe6g9j15vyqd3eeVp4rqV/s640/1.jpg.png" width="640" /></a></div>
Take your lesson outdoors! We have an outdoor learning environment on my campus (garden) and I love using it for writing, math and of course science lessons. The students love just being able to move around and explore. <br />
<br />
Here my students are calculating the perimeter of the outside of the plant box. (excuse our poor little plants)<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEicGwaaVASmc7lzSnyy1_wzgxA9TVdMNgGWLkUzj-JtLt9soBkiJbZEqkQTJbBrE4K736Ny0gtDh4Xy3IWquF13YzdUFAPoulcSyQsW6GF2hUOXoEhrpUnnN6_Ldqfv_Fl21LxMWQsWRlhi/s1600/1a.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="417" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEicGwaaVASmc7lzSnyy1_wzgxA9TVdMNgGWLkUzj-JtLt9soBkiJbZEqkQTJbBrE4K736Ny0gtDh4Xy3IWquF13YzdUFAPoulcSyQsW6GF2hUOXoEhrpUnnN6_Ldqfv_Fl21LxMWQsWRlhi/s640/1a.png" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
Cooperative Learning is the key to less stress if you do it correctly. Here my students work together to come up with words that follow the rule written on each table group. Here my students from the blue table are trying to come up with more words that have the r controlled vowel. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
Students love working together and I love hearing my kiddos teach each other using their own language.<br />
<br />
Keep it organized!!! I've added a few things to help keep my class organized and in order this year. Here's a look at my tables which are grouped by color and some crate seats that are used for reading spots and storage.<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
<br />
Here's my life saver!!! My guided math board. I also created a literacy station board to match but forgot to take a picture. This little board saves me from hearing "I forgot where I go Mrs, S" 20 times in row. Now my classroom is student driven vs. teacher driven. <br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
<center>
This week I'm going share my math schedule with you guys and discuss how I incorporate Guided Math into my math block. If you missed my last post, I discussed how I use Problem of the Day as a daily warm up with my students to practice problem solving. Feel free to check that post out!</center>
<center>
</center>
<center>
Here's a look at my math block. As you can see my math block is 90 minutes long and most of our time is focused on Guided Math and math rotations.<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi597GKXOC5sAlXqqPQrt1kFJCyKRrWg7vRkPqfJvTDehqlTd4AWfkTa_-V1Bvs6Tx589lucGmNSP4B6OhRjapXf6ws1080YlV2nKOFAykhjaNOXTRKsQeRtsyn8YsWXoYqNmsUtDhMCWET/s1600/Math+schedule.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi597GKXOC5sAlXqqPQrt1kFJCyKRrWg7vRkPqfJvTDehqlTd4AWfkTa_-V1Bvs6Tx589lucGmNSP4B6OhRjapXf6ws1080YlV2nKOFAykhjaNOXTRKsQeRtsyn8YsWXoYqNmsUtDhMCWET/s320/Math+schedule.png" width="240" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Since this is Part 1 of my guided math blog post I wanted to share with you how I get my students ready for the transition from seat work to math rotations. In my opinion the only way to assure that your transitions run smoothly is to incorporate a rotation display board for you and your students to quickly reference before rotations. I hate to admit it but in the beginning of last year I kept my rotation chart and grouping sheet on a clipboard on my desk nowhere for my students to see. (WOW) How wrong is that! My students were constantly asking me questions, not because they were off task, or not listening, but because they didn't have anything to reference other than me. So to alleviate that headache, I added a math workstation display board in my classroom. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
As you can see the board is easily visible for my students. The cards are laminated so that I can write the station activity on them with dry erase markers and they can be easily moved since they are glued to close pins.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhxdyUpYJ5mR8R9JqhLB2I06LE71wVUnrpBVCZJEIrKsRz4VlK9gn0epKwG2294OPRXSilNJSEoE0mZVy8V5huqOOuS7Y8lRIdVwowv45FJKeMl-rM70CUq2A7JRGivdLxzpyyTmZ95O1Uz/s1600/Picture2.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhxdyUpYJ5mR8R9JqhLB2I06LE71wVUnrpBVCZJEIrKsRz4VlK9gn0epKwG2294OPRXSilNJSEoE0mZVy8V5huqOOuS7Y8lRIdVwowv45FJKeMl-rM70CUq2A7JRGivdLxzpyyTmZ95O1Uz/s400/Picture2.png" width="295" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
<div class="" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Here's a look at the board filled out.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjXxFu5EJ3Z-kZ0xsW7vBWMtL22yqlJkOaXVhyIyVS3zQF_iXYZvMuHiNlcLBrR10A52esKMkL9c9nm5UqfdpHlP8GMlStoi_RKYt3M06ItFOZMGD_5aYvMtFsJGv0fyggN6ifCrbofcYJY/s1600/Picture3.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjXxFu5EJ3Z-kZ0xsW7vBWMtL22yqlJkOaXVhyIyVS3zQF_iXYZvMuHiNlcLBrR10A52esKMkL9c9nm5UqfdpHlP8GMlStoi_RKYt3M06ItFOZMGD_5aYvMtFsJGv0fyggN6ifCrbofcYJY/s400/Picture3.png" width="300" /></a></div>
<div class="" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
It's hard to see since I took it with my iphone but my groups are filled in with my students names and can easily be changed when regrouping. The rotations cards have the skill they will work on at each station so they know what basket to grab their materials from. I also add a clip to the round numbers (rotation) they are working on that day so they know where they are to go. Since creating the board all my students have to do is look for their group, see what round their currently on, and get to work. Easy!!!! </div>
<div class="" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
If your wondering about my rotations they include problem solving, concept development, numeracy, vocabulary, and stem. Make sure to check back for Part 2 where I explain some activities I use in my rotations.</div>

As you know I made the jump from 2nd to 3rd last year and had to prepare my students for that yucky state test. Luckily my students did an amazing job and I know it was because of how I tackled problem solving.<br />
<div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<br /></div>
<div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
I knew I had to improve on problem solving so the first thing that I did was add problem solving to my math block! Each day we spend the first 15 minutes of our math block focusing on problem solving. This has made a huge difference in how my students approach a story problem. As you can see I have a wall just for problem solving that includes <a href="https://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Store/My-3rd-Grade-Journal">my problem solving strategy posters</a> (in store) that my students use to reference while solving their POD. My students also have one in their POD folders to reference. Below the POD header I usually take the 2-3 copies of their POD and glue them to white paper and invite a few students to come solve on the board. This allows me to assess my students understanding of problem solving daily. These students also get feedback from me and their classmates. Finally you can see that I include<a href="https://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Store/My-3rd-Grade-Journal"> quick checks on my board</a> (included in my story problem packs) that my students solve independently 1-2 times a week. Students have to show how they used each strategy while solving the problem and explain their thinking in words. These forms give me so much data and RTI information for my students!<br />

This summer has been packed with trips to the pool, library, cheerleading practice and of course binge watching Orange is the New Black. Other than that here's what going on with me......<br />
<br />

<br />
First let me say that before I create anything for my classroom I like to reflect on what did and didn't work for me this past year to see what I need. With that in mind I knew I had to create something for taking lunch count and checking out books from my class library. I hate to admit this, but my lunch count took up way too much time in the morning! Our district actually has breakfast in the classroom and taking lunch count was one of the many things that needed to be taken care of in that small block we call arrival time. Then I never followed through on making my students sign the check out log for my class library, I figured out that I'm really not worried so much about that as long as their reading! <br />
So today while at Joann's Fabric I spotted these Jumbo Library pockets from Creative Teaching Press and knew I could use them for something, plus they were a steal at 1.80 for a pack of 12! Of course I grabbed all of the ones I could find. Then I went to Michael's and grabbed some beads and pipe cleaners to make some tools for my students to use during word study and guided reading.<br />
<br />
Project 1: (less than $2.00)<br />
I used the large pockets and colored card stock to create a lunch count display. Students have 4 choices for lunch which I wrote on the pockets with expo marker (after laminating). I cut the strips of paper into pieces and wrote students names on them. When students come in they will grab their strip and choose what they want for lunch, then my helper will count and record it before morning announcements are over. Quick and easy and now I won't have anymore delays! <br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiGbh-iQ-UfxPWfON5hjRTB3gfWBZ6wTvqChR8yeg2M7XcPTx17ilq_acybmsdhtW3uQSyJ-CfqElap9mhaJZ9-UNylg2c40HdWDjibMJcd_ivq2L3qDWTQnq-KStwTmLG0JWNjZGsm9DjX/s1600/photo+%252827%2529.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="298" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiGbh-iQ-UfxPWfON5hjRTB3gfWBZ6wTvqChR8yeg2M7XcPTx17ilq_acybmsdhtW3uQSyJ-CfqElap9mhaJZ9-UNylg2c40HdWDjibMJcd_ivq2L3qDWTQnq-KStwTmLG0JWNjZGsm9DjX/s400/photo+%252827%2529.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
<br />
Project 2: (less than $2.00)<br />
Library pockets! All you need is card stock cut into strips, library pockets, hole punch, and rings. Place a hole at the top of the pocket and place the ring thru it and attach to a book basket. Give students 2 strips of paper with their names on them to use for checking out books. Students will choose a book from your library by placing their strip of paper in the library pocket of the basket the book came from. When the student is finished reading the book and has returned it they can get their strip of paper back. This will allow me to see what genres each student is reading, how long they've had a certain book and if their placing the books back where they belong.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjXtcR0LDaqEfEiO64AWmaxazDSLsE1PNwvyoONV44oIkfUGRn4PR7HhefIJtC3bWs5ZZZ8oKW4WI36Br6t2bZincfkaHfM2Xuz9BhwLi7cfsuV8WuaZaABYTSR2bBBVn8ZaU5rwL_RPduH/s1600/photo+%252826%2529.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjXtcR0LDaqEfEiO64AWmaxazDSLsE1PNwvyoONV44oIkfUGRn4PR7HhefIJtC3bWs5ZZZ8oKW4WI36Br6t2bZincfkaHfM2Xuz9BhwLi7cfsuV8WuaZaABYTSR2bBBVn8ZaU5rwL_RPduH/s320/photo+%252826%2529.JPG" width="238" /></a></div>
<br />
Project 3: Word Crackers (less than $4.00 for enough to make 25)<br />
These are very simple to make, all you'll need are some beads, pipe cleaners and some card stock. These need to be made before allowing students to use them! First place 10 beads onto a pipe cleaner. Next take a strip of card stock and poke a hole through it on both sides with the pipe cleaner. Once the holes are poked pull the pipe cleaners through and tape it down on the back. Then your all set to use the word crackers in class! These can be used to practice counting syllables, compound words, stretching words, and so much more! These also can be used in Math (rekenrek) for adding up to 10. Below my daughter used the word cracker (green)to determine how many syllables were in the word umbrella. As you can see she slid over 3 beads because she heard 3 syllables.<br />

<br />
<center>
Well it's that time folks, time for my kiddos to take STAAR! My students have worked so hard this year and I am confident that my kiddos will ROCK this test! Since we only have 6 days left to prepare I decided to let my students write their very own STAAR PLAN using <a href="http://www.dots-n-spots.com/?p=1539">dots-n-spots</a> New Year's Eve Resolution guitars. My students loved planning how they were going to be successful on our big test. Everybody loved reading my students plans. Take a look!</center>

I went a head and ran with the Rock Star theme during our daily math review. My kids love solving problems that have cute clip art and bright colors. I projected them with my projector and my students solved and explained the process during our think-pair-share time.</center>

</center>
<center>
I've also been working hard to applaud the efforts of my students since this is such hard time of the year, so I've given my students their very own "mini me" to go in their STAAR folders. The students earn badges (stickers) for making their target score on their quizzes. My students love this more than anything I've every done! I will definitely continue this next year. If you plan on doing something similar in your class I would make sure its kept some place that is private. This isn't something you would want everyone to see. My students keep theirs in their folders. </center>

If you follow me on <a href="https://instagram.com/mythirdgradejournal/">IG</a> then you've seen my post about my students scoring 88% passing on our district 9 week assessments. I'm planning on ending our final week of STAAR prep with a rock party so I used one of the extra guitars from our STAAR plan activity as an incentive. Each time we get 80% on a quiz as a class one of my students will add a guitar piece to the board. Once our guitar is complete I plan on surprising them with a rock star party including go noodle, star pencils and goodies as a reward for all of their hard work.</center>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I know I'm late but I wanted to wish you all a Happy New Year! As always I've started my New Year by setting some goals for myself professionally, spiritually, and of course physically. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Professionally: My students are taking the STAAR exam this year so I've been really trying to make my lessons and activities more rigorous. I'm also reducing the number of worksheets I use, instead I'm relying on hands on activities that make my students think.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Spiritually: I received a bible companion journal for Christmas that has weekly lessons to help better understand the bible. I plan on reading it for inspiration and strength.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Physically: Last, but not least I made a goal to slim down! I've met so many inspiring teachers that have done the work and slimmed down, that I think I can do the same. I know that I have a long road ahead of me but I truly feel that I can accomplish this with the support of my ig friends.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
So to keep up with my physical goal I'm linking up with <a href="http://thirdgradetidbits.blogspot.com/2015/01/slim-down-saturdays-jan-10-2015.html">Teaching with a touch of Pixie Dust</a> to bring you my slim down Saturday.</div>

I did really well this week because I planned and prepared all of my meals in advance. I stayed away from the drive thrus and drank nothing but water and green tea. I also started using MFP again but had a hard time continuing to track everything, but I plan to do better.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I also plan to hit the gym! It's been super cold and wet here so all I wanted to do after work was come home and snuggle up on the couch.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I continue to look for motivation from all of my ig buddies, if they can do it, I can do it. </div>

As you can see I'm liking up with <a href="http://ohboy3rdgrade.blogspot.com/">Oh' Boy 4th Grade</a> to bring you my December currently. This post isn't just to link up, it's also my way of coming out of blogging retirement! From the photos on my blog you can see that I have been busy coaching a cheerleading squad. Well I'm thrilled to say that the season has ended and me and my cheer babies are on a well needed break until next season. So no more neglecting my poor blog. <br />
<br />
<br />
Currently I'm listening to my 2 year old explain why he shouldn't be sleeping right now. This normally doesn't happen except my husband let his sleep until 8:30 so my munchkin is wide a wake in his room.<br />
<br />
Loving: I love everything about Thanksgiving and Christmas! I love the colors, smells, clothes, weather, food and of course the time off! I love my students but sometimes we all can use a break.<br />
<br />
Thinking: I'm so not looking forward to setting my alarm to wake up at 5 tomorrow. Just the thought of it makes me want to cry.<br />
<br />
Wanting: This one could get long.... I've asked Santa for a new hard case for my dell along with a colorful keyboard skin, blanket scarf from American Eagle, Erin Condren gift card to replace my life planner, and black and white cheetah nike running shoes. I also want my husband to stop telling me that he doesn't want anything!!!! I promise he's the hardest person to shop for.<br />
<br />
Needing: To wrap gifts!!!!! <br />
<br />
Giving: I want to give all of you major kudos!!!! For constantly doing wonderful things in and outside of your classrooms for your kiddos.<br />

<span style="font-family: Calibri; font-size: 18pt;">Today I'm going to talk to you about how to avoid Spiral Drama!!!! I don’t
know about you guys but my kids love taking the spiral coil out of their
spirals which of course causes their spirals to come completely apart. Last year I tried buying a class set of
the composition books so that I could avoid the drama with the spiral all
together but they cost so much more than the spirals. This year I was able to
get a class set of 17 spirals for a little over 2 dollars versus paying 50
cents for 1 comp book. </span></div>

I guess it must be so because the hubs and I are planning our anniversary weekend and <a href="http://ohboy3rdgrade.blogspot.com/">Farley's</a> July currently is up. So while I have some alone time at my computer I shall entertain you guys with my currently list.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiNbn0cTRv7yxxdwYK1GN4fdiI1QaoPQTLfpikVJzPCvH-z3RfaOIgYR4ejZnDHI_1iiQgbZxsJ85Pxh5iVGaF7F1rvOlGmbed_MQnlhVT7w9F3gds4gQLv_r2dkgTHeEDpHXyuefKcEPcV/s1600/12.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiNbn0cTRv7yxxdwYK1GN4fdiI1QaoPQTLfpikVJzPCvH-z3RfaOIgYR4ejZnDHI_1iiQgbZxsJ85Pxh5iVGaF7F1rvOlGmbed_MQnlhVT7w9F3gds4gQLv_r2dkgTHeEDpHXyuefKcEPcV/s1600/12.jpg" height="400" width="300" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Listening: I'm currently listening to my daughter ask me questions so she can try to stay up longer than she's supposed too! Of course mommy does not play that!</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Loving: This summer I've been on a dress kick for some reason. Usually I try my best to stay away from them but lately I've been in nothing but dresses and couldn't be more happier. I've found tons that will be perfect paired up with a cute cardigan for back to school.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Thinking: I've been thinking way too hard about what I'm going to get the mister for our anniversary. He's the type who never wants anything which makes it super hard to figure out what he wants. So far I've narrowed it down to some new coaching gear since he coaches a lil league football team or some Ray Ban glasses both of which I think he would love and tell me to take back because he doesn't want anything.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Wanting: My husband has surprised me with a brand new rocking chair for my classroom for our anniversary. So I would love for the one and only Laurie Cole of Laurie Cole designs to paint my rocking chair for me. She made my teacher sign for me when I started teaching and I get nothing but compliments when people see it. </div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Needing: I so need to finish cleaning all the closets in my house so I can donate all the goodies we don't wear and need to make space for everything else. </div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
4th plans: We're going to enjoy fireworks, BBQ, and enjoy our anniversary! </div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Well that's all for me. I hope you all have a safe and fun fourth!</div>
<div>

<br />
As you can see I've been absent from my blog for almost a year. Yikes!!!! So today I'm linking up with <a href="http://doodlebugsteaching.blogspot.com/">Doodle Bugs Teaching</a> to give you my 5 for Friday. If you follow my instagram then you might have seen me talk about some of these projects this week. <br />

Since school has been out I've taken on coaching and being team mom of my daughter's cheerleading squad! I never thought this is what I would be doing over my summer break but it's been nice to focus on something other than work for a change. Anyway one of my first task as cheer mom/coach was to make my cheer bows for my girlies. I absolutely love how they turned out!<br />

I've been searching pinterest day and night and found the most adorable cheerleading t shirt. You've might have seen this on pinterest in black and pink but of course I had to get it made in our colors. Go Broncos! My girls were so excited to receive these shirts and they looked too stinkin cute with their bows.</div>

My last cheerleading project of this week was making water jugs for the girls. It gets super hot in Texas during football season so it was a no brainer that every girl needed one. But of course me being who I am I just had to add some flare to them. So far I've finished 3 out of 11. This project may take a couple of days.<br />

<div style="text-align: center;">
Let's get this party started!</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
1. If you've been following my blog then you know that my husband is currently deployed in Afghanistan right now. This is our 2nd deployment together the first was 4 years ago while I was pregnant with my daughter. He was scheduled to come home for 2 weeks around my due date but my daughter had other plans and decided to surprise us by coming 2 weeks early so my husband coached me threw the delivery on the phone and was able to come home 3 days later. This time he is working straight threw so no visits until the end of his deployment :(</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
2. I have 2 amazing kiddos! My daughter who is 4 and my 11 month old son. These two keep me on my toes! </div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
3. I love music! I'm currently rocking Bruno Mars (which is awesome) and Maroon 5 (love me some Adam). If you were to open my cd case you would be surprised at how much I love country music! Some of my favorite artist are Lady A, Luke Bryan, and Carrie Underwood.</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
4. This will be my 4th year teaching. I've taught 1st grade 1 year and 2nd grade for 3. I also teach in the same district that I went to as a kid. My assistant principal was my 7th grade ELA teacher!</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
5. I was a assistant Child Care Director for 5 years before I started teaching in the school district that I work for.</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
6. I hate change! I really do! That's why I don't think I could ever transfer campuses or districts (too stressful).</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
7. I can't stand sliced cheese on sandwiches but love cheeseburgers (weird)! My husband thinks it's a brain thing. We even tried melting the cheese on a sandwich and it was a no go. Which is why I tend to stay away from subway. No fun ordering a sandwich with only meat and bread:(</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
8. I have a dog named Izzy that my husband surprised me with when we were dating 6 years ago. Love this girl! </div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
9. I have the tendency to look mad when I'm perfectly happy. I think I got this from my mom because people say the same thing about her. So I usually get the "are you ok"? speech sometime during the day because people think I'm upset. I promise you I smile and laugh all the time!</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
10. The last and final tidbit about me is that I have the worst sleeping schedule ever! I usually don't go to sleep until 3 in the morning. For some reason I get all of my ideas in a.m. One year I was so out of sync that I slept during the day and was awake all night. </div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
Well I hope you have learned a little more about me! I report back to work on Thursday for inservice so I'm off to finish up some cutting.</div>

Listening: to my daughter splash and sing in the tub while Sprouts is playing in the background.</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
Loving: all of the projects me and my husband got done before left on his tour. We replaced the carpet with hard wood floors, tore out the old counters and replaced them with granite and now I'm painting the house before I head back to school. I could have been done already but I can't decide on a darn color!</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
Thinking: As always I'm thinking about my husband until he arrives home safely from serving overseas. </div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
Wanting: I hope my husband is reading this ;) I would really like a housekeeper so that I can take at least one task off my to do list when I go back to work. This summer has been super stressful trying to take care of everything while my husbands away. I usually don't get to clean clean until the kids are asleep. I have no clue how I will manage it when I have papers to grade, plans to write and conferences to attend.</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
Needing: I really need some new shoes for work! I finished the year with my pregnancy shoes because my feet had grew a size while pregnant but now all of them are way tooooooo big! </div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
B2S must haves: </div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
1. New wardrobe - I'm a thick girl so I love shopping at lane Bryant, Macys, and Old Navy for cute B2S attire.</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
2. Healthy Snack stash - I know all of us are guilty of knowing a teacher that has a stash of candy and grabbing a couple of pieces on a stressful day. One year I made a dum dum tree and I kid you not I gave out more dum dums to teachers than my students because they were always on the hunt for sugar. This year I promised myself that I would pack healthy snacks that wouldn't tip the scale. if you guys have any good suggestions I'd love to hear them in the comments below;)</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
3. Lastly a water tumbler and coffee mug! I've been on the hunt for cute and durable ones because I always break them or loose them. </div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
Well that's it for me. I'm off to enjoy my limited days of late night Netflix movies before I have that pesky 5 o'clock alarm ringing in my ear again. I don't report back until the 15th what about you?</div>

My daughter is starting Pre-K this year! I swear it was just yesterday that my husband and I brought her home from the hospital. I was so surprised to get the call a few days ago that a spot became open in the dual language program in our district and my daughter was first on the list. So that means that my daughter will somewhat be bilingual when she graduates from high school! Is that cool or what? Does your district offer dual language? I will be teaching 2nd grade dual language this year and I'm eager to get started. Anyway with that being said the mother in me went crazy and bought my girly tons of school clothes. Here's a look at some of her goodies.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjnHGC3VTVa6m7Fuj-DCqIm2RcK8jgCPVj3zPtTVnj3c7QDeQhEvf-Dr_OjLQLpa6IRBZemxTGBkfGkQi-ocBgGQtD_W2rwDAh1l7OweeoCqb6chhjSZuI-kdfTT4LN-DLnmdajlrXmsns7/s1600/photo+(49).JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="278" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjnHGC3VTVa6m7Fuj-DCqIm2RcK8jgCPVj3zPtTVnj3c7QDeQhEvf-Dr_OjLQLpa6IRBZemxTGBkfGkQi-ocBgGQtD_W2rwDAh1l7OweeoCqb6chhjSZuI-kdfTT4LN-DLnmdajlrXmsns7/s320/photo+(49).JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
On another note I told you the teacher side of me is acting just as crazy. Here are some of the steals I scored during BTS2013.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEimB63wlsnNjuDjWnYP79_Z5vS1ZRLvoN7OOs7Nz8aB31M5f8usol48d8yxGr7Z27TyxJNtFMedWiZqE4D7Y-QMjEHaI0EPSJoRCQcvpBxU9d-IP7lJznKrkGIOefDWlYRjQrQwWqjoa1YR/s1600/photo+(51).JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEimB63wlsnNjuDjWnYP79_Z5vS1ZRLvoN7OOs7Nz8aB31M5f8usol48d8yxGr7Z27TyxJNtFMedWiZqE4D7Y-QMjEHaI0EPSJoRCQcvpBxU9d-IP7lJznKrkGIOefDWlYRjQrQwWqjoa1YR/s320/photo+(51).JPG" width="239" /></a></div>

<br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I got tons of baskets, markers, post-its, glue etc alot of which aren't pictured. To top that I finally broke down and got the rolling cart you see in most teachers rooms only because it was 70% off at Michaels last week! Finally I think every teacher needs these two little bottles from BBW somewhere in their room for those days that nothing seems to be going right or when you need a energy boost.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
On another note I finally finished my BTS2013 math centers. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div style="text-align: center;">
I plan to use them to assess my students math abilities and to help</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
me group them for guided math rotations the first few weeks of school. The unit features place value, problem solving, measurement, addition/subtraction facts up to 20 and more!</div>

FLASH FREEBIEI've finally made up my mind about what I want to do with my room this year! In the past I've done a garden theme with bees, pirates, and this year I have decided to do a monster theme with of course some chevron mixed in. My inspiration came when I was buying some clip art to add to my collection on Creative Clips TPT page when I fell in love with her cute primary monster pack and knew I had to use them in my room this year. So of course I thought I would share it with some of my blog buddies who haven't decided on what to do with their rooms. So for<u> 1 hour only</u> I will email the unit to anyone who follows my blog thru bloglovin, my TPT store and like my new Facebook page which you can get to <a href="https://www.facebook.com/MySecondGradeJournal">here</a>! This pack is 129 pages of total cuteness and is regularly sold for 8 bucks in my TPT store! When you've completed everything just leave a comment with your email and I will send the unit to you. <br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
Here's a preview of some of the goodies in the unit.</div>

This post is going to be super quick because I just finished uploading my accomplishment badges to my TPT store and I wanted to share some pics with you guys. Plus I plan to give 2 copies of these babies away to two lucky bloggers who are still up blogging with me! First let me say that I saw these badges start popping up and just had to make some of my own specifically for my students next year. This unit contains 25 different badges for students to wear proudly to show off their accomplishments. Click <a href="http://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Product/Accomplishment-Badges-760821">here</a> to head over to my TPT store to grab a copy!<br />

I actually can't believe it's already July. The other day I was going to get my bubba (9 month old son) a walking toy from Toys R Us because he's standing and walking around everything when I spotted a wall of Back to School Supplies!!!!!!!! EEEEEKKK! I am so not ready to go back! <br />
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Any who I've been super busy changing and creating things in my house. Here's a pic of my latest project.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiyy9nGJral_xDVD_IWwPovxljQnp0HWeylMe9FLDK-re-ayz20eNZdRKhjy1U3kUVCIdbenSgv2io1_0G-wT-_t6HaVSWWDbLModislQZLE_HSUb9-GL_eQ2LQgyqmYIK7V00JB1Ue36Zx/s640/photo+(46).JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiyy9nGJral_xDVD_IWwPovxljQnp0HWeylMe9FLDK-re-ayz20eNZdRKhjy1U3kUVCIdbenSgv2io1_0G-wT-_t6HaVSWWDbLModislQZLE_HSUb9-GL_eQ2LQgyqmYIK7V00JB1Ue36Zx/s320/photo+(46).JPG" width="239" /></a></div>
<div>
I bought some paint canvases and fabric from Hobby Lobby and stapled the fabric to the canvases and paired them up with this super cute art piece also found at Hobby Lobby. I think once I paint the house the pieces will really POP! </div>
<div>

<b>Listening and Loving:</b></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
So today it was so nice outside! I mean living in Texas we can see temps up to 105 so when I stepped outside to a cool 87 degrees I grabbed the kids, some snacks, and bathing suits and headed straight to the water park. Bubba didn't want anything to do with the water so he stayed on the side with gma eating cheerios. But my daughter went crazy so crazy that she passed out the minute we got in the car until about 30 minutes ago. Which explains why I'm listening to Sponge Bob and her laughing hysterically!</div>

<b>Thinking:</b></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
With all the fun we've had today i think we might just have to make a trip to the Zoo or Aquarium tomorrow or at least before we have to go back to school.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<b>Wanting:</b></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I sooooo want this one coffee table and end tables that I found at Ashley's yesterday. My husband and I got married on the 4th of July and as an anniversary gift I asked him for a new kitchen table and a garmin fitness watch for my present but I'm trying to add a certain pair of tables to my list ;)</div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<b>Needing:</b></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I seriously need to finish all of my DIY projects before I have to report back to work which includes painting the entire house, moving furniture, hanging pictures, and checking out flee markets for some house flare.</div>

As you can see I'm linking up with <a href="http://4thgradefrolics.blogspot.com/2013/06/monday-made-it-62413.html">4th grade frolics</a> to bring you my Monday Made it projects. If you guys have been following my summer to do then you have seen that I want to do as much as I can with my kids especially my daughter during the time that my husband is overseas in Afghanistan. Our first family project was the hopscotch pavers for the backyard. I was really surprised at how inexpensive the cost was. I spent a total of $34.00 and 24 of that was on spay paint alone! </div>

Our next project were sponge bombs that I found on pinterest. I bought a large bag of sponges from the dollar store and cut them into strips. Once cut I stacked two rows of 4 sponges on top of each other and placed a rubber band around them and voila! Sponge bombs! </div>

Recognizing and Understanding mathematical Vocabulary<br />
<br />
I'm late but I have a freebie for you guys! This book has got to be one of the best school related books that I have read so far. Laney Sammons lays it all out for you when she talks about the ways we should integrate vocabulary into our lessons. One point that she made was that as teachers we always want to start out with vocabulary when we're unwrapping a unit to our kids. Instead of starting with the vocabulary we should focus on the timing of the vocabulary. Basically don't unwrap it until you've covered it! For example if I were to introduce place value to my kids I wouldn't start spilling out all the vocabulary words associated with place value. Instead I would teach and when the vocabulary word comes up that's when I would focus on it with my students. This way your students have some experience to pull from to help them understand the vocabulary even better.<br />
<br />
She also talks about using graphic organizers such as the frayer model so that students can describe, explain and provide examples and non examples of the vocabulary in their own words. She provides tons of examples of student work, games and questions stems that can assist you with your vocabulary instruction. After reading this chapter I have a better understanding of how much time a student needs to work with vocabulary in order to retain it. It's not enough for the teacher to just verbally say or write the word and definition down on the board. Sammons suggest students write it, say it, use it at home, and see it on content boards in order for them to truly understand it.<br />
<br />
After reading this chapter I looked at my TEKS for the first unit next year and pulled out the important vocabulary terms and created this mini unit on place value. I will use this unit after my students have worked with these terms to help reinforce the meaning of the words. You can grab your copy <a href="http://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Product/Place-Value-Vocabulary-puzzles-freebie-732355">here</a>!<br />

I also created these place value question stem cards that I plan to hang on my content board with the vocabulary words used in my mini unit.<br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
My daughter is so excited about splash day tomorrow that she couldn't stop talking about it in the car home today. If you know 4 year olds then you know that was a lot of talking!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I'm loving the fact that I will be done with school in 2 days! Yea!!!! We have our science final in the morning and then it's memory book time followed by reading outside and ice cream in a bag! </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
In the summer I usually take some kind of course at the local Michaels or Hobby Lobby to learn how to make things. In the past I've taken classes on how to make bows, headbands, and decorating cakes. This year I would really like to learn how to sew. Especially since I keep seeing tons of pins on how to make your own curtains and pillows for your home. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Wanting: I am really wanting all this EOY paperwork to magically disappear. That has to be the worst part of it all. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Needing: I been on a dress craze for a couple of weeks now and it seems that the more dresses I buy the more matching shoes I need to go with them. I guess this summer I'll just have to go shopping for shoes :) don't tell the mister!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
My 3 vacay essentials would have to be my phone, an adult beverage preferably one that is icy and fruity and some good music. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
